John and Christina Hurlow live in Bloomington with their six children: Rachel, Grant, Gavin, Garrett, Ethan, and Ella. John is the President and Senior Financial Advisor of Hurlow Wealth Management Group, Inc., a privately owned firm that manages the financial affairs of a select group of families across 20 states. John “attempts to play golf in his spare time, but is not all that good at it.” Christina spends her time managing the children and in her spare time she enjoys playing tennis. Both John and Christina have been active on several non-profit boards and volunteer their time to many local organizations.

“A good hospital strengthens the local economy while improving the health of its residents,” said local Heritage Society member John Hurlow. “The Hospital Foundation has always been a critical component in the well-being of our community and is only going to become more essential in the coming years.”

After careful thought, John and his wife Christina became members of the Heritage Society in 2010. “Our initial decision to make a pledge to the Heritage Society was something we worked into our personal financial planning after a few heart-warming moments spent at Volunteers in Medicine,” John explained. “In the end, the idea that convinced us to jump on board sooner rather than later was the whispering of a new Hospice House.”

The Hurlows know that the Heritage Society brings together likeminded, forward-looking, giving individuals who care about the future of the community. “Members of the Heritage Society understand the importance of making sure that patients will always have state-of-the-art care at Bloomington Hospital,” said John. “Financial circumstances should not be a barrier to good health. Members of the Heritage Society can help remove the barrier of cost for patients in need.”

Giving back to the community has always been a pillar in the lives of John and Christina and their family. “We have been very fortunate to have several mentors, clients, friends and family members who have been amazing examples in our lives,” John said. “Our hope is that we can instill these same values in our children.”

John and Christina encourage everyone to join the Heritage Society. John even bribes potential members with free doughnuts! On a more serious note, John sees similarities in joining the Heritage Society and his work in wealth management. “The Hospital Foundation is just like any other investment,” he said. “The earlier you start, the more good it will be able to produce.”
