Your Donations at Work: Alzheimer’s Resource Service Update

Lauren Dexter, Special Events Manager

In December 2015, the Bloomington Hospital Foundation Holiday Gala raised funds for the IU Health Bloomington Alzheimer’s Resource Service. This local resource provides a wide variety of support to those suffering from the disease as well as support to their families and caregivers. Because of the outpouring generosity from our community, the Service was able to expand upon their offerings, adding even more value to a service that is available completely free of charge (see infographic for added benefits resulting from 2015 campaign).

The Foundation is proud of partners such as Smithville, who is requiring 100% of their employees be trained in Dementia-friendly practices and now include this in their on-boarding process. We are also happy to report that partners Bell Trace (CarDon and Associates), Ivy Tech Community College Bloomington, and Cook Medical have been involved in the CNA Training program at the Hoosier Hills Career Center. “The goal is to increase the number and quality of caregivers in our community to meet a drastic need in our home care and long term care facilities and to give opportunity to high school students to obtain a state-recognized certification by graduation,” Dayna Thompson, head of the Alzheimer’s Resource Service.

Thank you to everyone who gave and continues to give to the Alzheimer’s Resource Service. Your unwavering support continues to make a significant impact on local healthcare.
